Recap and the Sequel

Wow guys, it's been a crazy ride ever since I published this little game about 2 and a half weeks ago. In this post I'd like to recap everything that's been going on as well as give you guys an update on the sequel. Let's get started!

Stats

So since publishing on September 18th I've gotten:

  • 3,137 downloads
  • 119k impressions

That's not bad for a game that I made in two days. Now as some people have pointed out, the map is just a modified version of the Atmospheric House, I wanted to focus on polishing up the technical side that's often lacking in my other games where I focus on level design. I have also received $10 in donations, thank you to all the people that donated. You don't know how much it means to me having your support; all that money will be going into the sequel (which I'll be talking about later in this post). Overall this is my second most popular game and I'm quite happy with that!

Videos

I always love seeing people make videos of my games; not only does it get more people checking the game out, it gives me valuable insight into the thought process of players and things I can fix. Thanks to some early uploads, I was able to push out a 1.1 patch that fixed a lot of the big issues like Springtrap phasing through doors. The biggest part of this however, was having some of the biggest horror/FNAF YouTubers play my game! FusionZGamer, Dawko, and 8-BitRyan have all made videos of them playing through the entirety of my little game! It's really a dream come true to not only have them play it, but to see how much they enjoyed it. All the videos were very positive (with some helpful feedback as well) and I really can't thank the creators enough for taking the time to check it out. Regardless though, I very much appreciate anyone who makes room to sit down and record a playthrough, no matter if they have 10 subscribers or 10,000. It warms my heart scrolling through YouTube and seeing all the cool videos you guys have made :)

Sequel

Now the thing you've probably been waiting for: the sequel. Now you might've noticed I left videos on the big YTer's channels telling them that a sequel is in development, and I'd like to go into a bit more detail here. The main thing I heard a lot when watching playthroughs (I watch as many as I can) was that the idea was really cool, but there could be a lot more to it. I think the original game was a great proof of concept for what a full-fledged Springtrap game could be like, but the gameplay (while fun) was very simple. For the sequel I'd like to go more in-depth with the story; we already know that Micheal is having a nightmare about his dad coming home, but he doesn't quite know that it's his dad (William Afton). The sequel is going to show the journey of Micheal slowly realizing that his father is and Springtrap's descent into madness. The locations are going to be a lot more varied than the first one and have some more randomness to them. For gameplay I'm hoping to keep the 3D free roam aspect while creating some more engaging tasks. I haven't nailed everything down so I can't reveal too much, but the AI is going to get an overhaul and there's going to be a new gadget to help the player detect where Sprintrap is. I don't have a timeline yet for the release but I will keep posting devlogs here and on my YouTube channel. Hopefully I can give you guys some screenshots soon ;)

Closing Thoughts

I'd like to end this by thanking everyone for supporting my game; whether you made a video, donated, or just downloaded it and had fun, I really appreciate it. It can be so hard to motivate yourself as a game dev but seeing how much everyone has enjoyed this makes me want to keep going. Thanks for reading my ramblings, peace be with you.
